Feelings/ emotions serve our thinking, when appropriate. There are only FOUR TRUE EMOTIONS: JOY (LOVE), SADNESS, FEAR & ANGER. There are other “emotions” which are blends of the four or, have “thinking” components.
Guilt, Shame, Anxiety, Depression, Embarrassment, Remorse, Regret, Jealousy, Resentment, Pride, Motivation, Passion, Desire and Sex are feelings which are mixes of the four, often with a thinking component. Thoughts are given energy by emotional charges. The energy may be positive or negative.
Anger is a moving state to get us to Joy (Happiness). Unresolved anger, or rage is a stuck state. It can cause physical and emotional stress and damage the heart.
Sadness is a response to someone or something we have lost and its intensity relates to the intensity of Love for that which has been lost. Unresolved sadness can lead to depression.
Depression is a spiral of anger and sadness which may be a stuck state or have fluctuations between sadness and anger. At the centre of depression lies Guilt, about what we have done, and this may not be conscious. Anxiety is a spiral of Fear and Anger. It is an emotion of the future – we can only be anxious in anticipation of something. At the centre Anxiety lies Shame, about who we are, our identity, that may be unconscious.
Fear warns us of danger and when a stuck state it freezes us – useful if feigning death in the presence of a predator but, unless we move to anger, a state of action, we can remain stuck. Unresolved Fear stops us doing what we want in so many ways. It may even be the basis of some anger and too much can damage the gut. (eg.ulcers)
Many physical ailments result from unresolved emotional issues!
Archaic feelings come from unresolved or suppressed feelings from the past. Each Significant Emotional Event (SEE) from the past stacks up and alters the present experience.
Significant Emotional Events stack up, like beads on a necklace, sometimes increasing with intensity as they accumulate! The string of beads can be called a Gestalt, from Fritz Perls' Gestalt Therapy.
The 1st SEE may well be unconscious, repressed, before the age of 5. The subsequent ones may be remembered and, even, be more powerful than the 1st. Yet all stack up to make the current experience feel more than is appropriate, or needs to be!
Archaic feelings come from unresolved or suppressed feelings from the past. Each Significant Emotional Event (SEE) from the past stacks up and alters the way we experience the present.
Emotions are triggered by the Amygdala, the primitive, reptilian emotional brain. Emotions preceded thought in animal evolution. Humans can think and rationalise. Emotions stimulate and effect our thoughts.
“There can be no transforming of darkness into light and of apathy into movement without emotion”
Carl Jung.

When an external stimulus enters our senses, via sight, sound, physical feeling, taste or smell it is routed via the Amygdala. The Amygdala feels the stimulus. If the stimulus is manageable it travels to the thinking brain, via the hippocampus, to be understood.
If the stimulus is not manageable adrenaline (that gives strength for flight or fight) and endorphins, (that anaesthetise pain) are released into the body and cut off the blood supply to the hippocampus, preventing the creation of cognitive memory.
THIS ALLOWS RAPID FIGHT OR FLIGHT RESPONSES WITHOUT THE SLOW PROCESS OF THOUGHT. to hinder ACTION.
The action has no thoughts to manage it, or slow it down. Useful for cave man v sabre toothed tiger! After the first attack he is hyper sensitive and fights or runs away without thinking and has an advantage over the other cave people who had not met the tiger before. Not so useful with modern man v spider, however!
Thus the memory becomes trapped as an emotional memory with little or no cognitive aspect. The original event is a trauma, resulting in a phobia in the present. If the event was in early life, (say before age 7) it may not have been cognitively processed, and becomes the first SEE of a chain of similar or metaphorically similar events which, when re-experienced, bring to life the feelings from the first, and later SEEs. That is how phobias are created and how a person in the here and now can feel and behave appropriately to a “here and now” stimulus, or feel and behave in a way which is not appropriate to the “here & now.” The emotional memory is trapped in the neurology, in the body. For example the phobic response to the spider is almost archetypical. Yet the simple fear generated by a summons to the bosses office, that takes us back to school. Is a phobia. The tantrumic rage from not being able to get the computer to do what we want surely lies at age 2, or thereabouts! Another phobia?
The process goes like this: Event = overwhelming stimulus = Trauma = energy disturbance/ perturbation. Current stimulus, like the original, in some way, reactivates the trauma = phobia in the present. The stimulus can be a smell, the expression on a person’s face, a sound, the sound or other aspect of a voice or any experience that, in some way reminds us of something traumatic in the past. Many stimuli are, in fact, unconscious.
It is widely accepted that feelings are felt in organs of the body. Fear and anxiety are felt in the stomach, or the throat.. Anger can be felt in the heart and in the throat. Stress can be felt in the back or neck and other places. We even have an organ language to describe the phenomenon: “A pain in the neck!” “Fed up!” “A gut full!” “It gives me butterflies (in the stomach)”
Thoughts are generated by the thinking brain and the unconscious mind. Thoughts are stimulated by internally or externally generated stimulae. Thoughts are represented by pictures, sounds, taste, feeling, smell and sensing, or a combination thereof. Cognitive memory & past thoughts are accessed via the Hippocampus.
Our unconscious, or sub-conscious minds store all our experience. Most of our experience is unconscious, i.e. we cannot remember it. Painful experience, especially before age 7, is often repressed to protect us from overwhelm. Note the amygdala’s response to trauma, above. The purpose of many therapeutic models is to render conscious the sources of our problems to aid resolution. Meridian therapy can resolve the emotional aspects of past traumas without the need to render them conscious in most cases. Hypnosis is one way of accessing repressed memories and requires the help of an hypnotherapist.
Our unconscious minds run and preserve our bodies. Dreams are the unconscious’ way of resolving hopes and fears. The unconscious learns quickly and enjoys metaphors and symbols. It cannot process a negative. If I asked you not to think of a pink elephant, what would you do? If you tell a young child not to touch something does it not invariably touch it? Negative self talk, “I’ll try to…” and “I don’t want to be ….. (eg. poor)” are taken literally by your unconscious. I.e. “What a idiot I am!” obliges the unconscious to assist you to be an idiot. “I’ll try to…” means I will only try but does not guarantee success. The unconscious does not hear the “don’t,” only the “Want to be poor.” Paying attention to your language will change your results.
The Origins of Theory for Resolution.
Given: We accept emotions/ feelings are in the body, like physical feelings.
In Ancient China, over 3,000 years ago, there was knowledge of energy meridians. Chinese physicians treated physical conditions by exerting pressure on specific meridians to resolve problems. The pressure was exerted by the insertion of needles. The Ancient Tibetans had energy maps of the human body long before the Chinese.
The Japanese used Shiatsu, a type of acu-pressure to resolve physical problems and Reiki, which is another form of energy therapy to do the same. Both are widely accepted today.
The Ancient Indians realised that there are seven Chakras, on or around the human body, which are energy centres, the unblocking of which resolved physical and emotional problems.
Chakra Therapy utilises the unblocking and re-energising of these energy centres for physical and deep emotional issues.
Acupuncture.
 |
3,000 years ago the Yellow Emperor, of China, decreed a system for medical practitioners to work with health by using acupuncture. Acupuncture, whilst not universally acknowledged by the Western medical community, is an accepted method of treating physical ailments and as an adjunct to surgery. Recent work by Western kinesiologists, chiropractors and, latterly, psychotherapists has noted the links between the physical body and the emotions. The work has shown that emotional issues can be resolved using pressure on specific points on the energy meridian system. Emotions/ feelings are like physical feelings, often caused by past traumas that are resurrected into a phobic response.
The past event, (SEE) is the TRAUMA. The present response is a PHOBIA.. A phobia is at any point on a continuum ranging from mild to severe. (See Spider example, above, where the phobic response can be mild or severe.)
In 1976 Dr. Roger Callaghan, a psychotherapist, who had studied some research, had been treating a woman with a presented problem of chronic hydrophobia for some time. The normal psychotherapeutic methods had not reduced her fear of water to any appreciable effect. Whilst she was thinking about her fear he reached over and tapped under her eye. (The end of the stomach meridian – fear is felt in the guts!) She declared, “Doctor, its gone!” and ran out of the house into the garden towards the swimming pool.
Roger was shocked and, fearing his client would leap into the pool without care for her inability to swim, ran after her. The lady declared, “Doctor! I’ve lost my phobia, not my mind!” and sat at the edge of the pool with her legs in the water! She could barely take a bath before that! She changed and entered the water for the first time in conscious memory!
Callaghan developed a set of procedures and technique for tapping on meridians to resolve emotional issues and more.
The new knowledge revolutionised Roger Callaghan’s practice. He cured all his long-term clients and nearly became bankrupt. After all, he had lost his long standing client base! I use this process NOW and help people to resolve big issues in days, hours, or less. My conventional therapeutic work used to take months or years. I use THE NEW LEARNINGS on myself whenever a problem comes up! Recently I misplaced my cheque book. After several days of not finding it I TAPPED ON not being able to find my cheque book and then found it in seconds!
The Callaghan technique involves a complex diagnostic and treatment system which, when learnt, is highly effective. The learning of this is beyond the scope of this manual and is better suited to therapists to study to work with others.
Gary Craig simplified the Callaghan techniques, using a similar process which works just as well, for therapists and persons helping themselves. You will learn the basics of Craig’s process and how to use it on yourself. This manual is designed for use with self. A sound knowledge of counselling or psychotherapy precedes use with others for effective work. Trained therapists may use these skills to work with others.

With the understanding you now have about emotions, the feelings wheel and gestalts YOU CAN, using meridian therapy, resolve many problems, as they come up! Old feelings seem inappropriate in the present environment.. Appropriate feelings seem to be appropriate to the present environment.
1. All the organs of the body have meridians associated with them. All emotions are associated with organs of the body and, so, have meridians associated with them. Some emotions are simple. See the feelings wheel. Anger, sadness and fear are simple. That means specific meridians apply. Other feelings are mixtures of emotions, sometimes mixed with thinkings and sequences of meridians apply. Using the Craig process means we do not have to know which meridians apply to which emotions. One set of thirteen meridians, when all are tapped, will release all negative emotions 90% of the time.
2. All emotions have, or had a positive purpose, at one time. Unresolved emotions will have been appropriate in the past but, usually, have no further use in the present circumstances. E.g, It may have been appropriate to feel fear as a baby finding yourself waking up alone in your crib and not knowing where mother was. Yet, now, suddenly finding yourself alone and lost, and feeling scared, in the present, will not assist you to find out where you are. So, say you feel scared when you are lost and alone – ask yourself, “Does feeling scared serve me when I am lost?” Remember that a Trauma has no thinking component and the first SEE was traumatic. . When you are lost isn’t it better to think than be scared? If so then feeling scared does not help you. The process of thinking will serve you better. That is how you know if a feeling/ emotion is archaic or useful now. Then, ask yourself, “Is it totally OK for me to let go of this scare now so I can be resourceful in the future?” If, “Yes!” you can, just release it!

3. The human body is an electrical system. Each part of the body has separate circuits. Each emotion has separate circuits, too! There are +ve and –ve poles. The polarities can be reversed for specific problems or emotions. like putting a battery the wrong way round in a torch does not produce light! I use the model of the mobile phone. You drop it and the screen does not work yet, you can still make and receive calls. The system works but not satisfactorily. Each bit needs to be repaired to fix the system. The batteries in the system may have not, all, been put in the right way round, or dropping the object may have shifted the polarities. That means there have been polarity reversals in some parts of the system. That means you may fix the whole system with one repair job, or you may have to check (change polarities) other bits before total fixing.
4. Craig’s adopted sequence of median points will, when tapped, whilst thinking of, or saying the problem, cause the problem to diminish and, with repeated tapping, cause it to disappear 90% of the time. * See polarity reversal correction and energy toxins.
 |
An example: An eleven-year-old boy, Eric, was molested by a man in an alley. The man took his purse and ran off with it, dumping it and disappearing. Eric was traumatised. I saw him four days later when he could not go out, could not be left alone in the house and would not go upstairs alone. He sat slumped in the chair. He told me what happened in a monotone and remained slumped in his chair. I asked, “How do you feel, now?” He shrugged and said, “Terrible.” I asked, “Do you want to feel better? If you could feel better now would you like that?” He said “Yes.” I checked his parents knew about acupuncture and explained about tapping on meridians. The parents agreed to let me work and Eric went along with it. I asked Eric, showing him a scale, “How bad do you feel now, on this scale, if feeling prefect was 0 and feeling the worst you have ever felt was 10?” Eric pointed to 10. We ran the EFT tapping sequence one time and he sat up in his chair and laughed.
His parents sat up, too! I asked, “How do you feel now?” Eric said “Its gone!” He felt fine and had no memory of the event! I checked two weeks later and his feeling was at a 3 on the scale. We tapped again and it went to 0! A week later I saw him playing in the street some distance from home.

|
Another example: I was working with a young man who had learning problems and a poor sense of reality. He was troubled by “voices” telling him off. We “tapped” on “The voices” until he could not imagine hearing them again. And he never heard them again!
Another example: I was working with a 22 year old who could not sleep because he “saw” people fiddling with his light shade. We “tapped” on “fiddling with the light shade” and he was never trouble by the hallucination again!
|

|
A 90 year old, wheelchair bound lady was burgled and saw the burglar. She was petrified by the thought of him and could not face being alone in the house. We “tapped” on her fear until she could imagine seeing him again, even coming closer to her, until she had no fear left! She was able to feel OK in her house, alone and slept well thereafter!
My two year old daughter awoke from a nightmare, screaming unconsolably. I took her in my arms and carried her to the toilet, tapping on myself as I thought of her and her fear. After one “tapping sequence” she totally relaxed! All tears & fears GONE!
I worked with a schizophrenic lady and we banished all her delusions, by “tapping” on each one, until they were all gone!
Whenever I lose or forget something, I tap on it and I find or remember it!
From Gary Craig:
The points: IN THE ORDER THEY ARE TAPPED
Kc (the karate chop point on the side of the hand) Or whilst rubbing Sore Spot
!st, Eb (The eyebrow nearest to the nose)
2nd, Oe (Outer eye, on the bony ridge at the other end of the eye from the nose)
3rd, Ue (Under the nose) **
4th, Un (Under eye )
5th, Um (Under the mouth) **
6th, Cb (Collar bone, on the dip under the collar bone approx .2“ from the sternum)
7th, Ua (Under the arm, arm-pit)
8th, Th (Thumb nail, junction with the quick at the uppermost edge when holding hand against the chest)
9th, Ff (First finger nail [as at thumb above] )
10th, Mf (Middle finger nail, [as at thumb above] )
11th, Lf (Little finger nail, [as at thumb above] )
12th G (Gamut point – at the back of the hand in the dip behind and between the 4th & 5th knuckles)
Other points: SS (sore spot = the tender spot on the upper chest midway along and below the collar bone) ** are tapping points for psychological (polarity) reversals, see below.
The procedure: Think of a problem, maybe a fear, anger, sadness or phobia which, when you check it out, serves no useful purpose in the here and now. Ask yourself, “Is it OK for me to have this problem disappear?” “If I did not have it any more would I lose anything which I want to keep?” If you have a clear YES to the first question and a clear NO to the second, you have run an ecology check: Proceed: Check on a scale of Subjective Units of Distress, 0 to 10, how big is the problem, 0 being no problem and 10 being the worst it could be. Note the level on the SUD scale.
Then, Referring to Tapping points, overleaf:
Tap gently and firmly, maybe 5 to 10 times on the Kc, (Or rub Sore Spot) whilst saying, “I wholly and completely accept myself with this problem.” three times. (Acceptance is important to letting the problem go.) Then tap on Eb, 5 to 10 times, whist saying, “The problem.” Repeat with Oe, Un, Um, Cb, Ua, Ff, Mf, Lf, and then on G. Then whilst tapping on G move eyes from side to side 10 times, and then round in a complete circle clockwise and then anti-clockwise ( to balance the brain hemispheres) Repeat sequence starting at Oe and ending at G.
Pause - think of something else for a moment. Think of the problem.! How big is the problem, now, on the SUD scale?
If it was a memory, the emotions of which you cannot fully feel: go back to the memory, step into it, look out from yourself in the memory and ask the question, “How big is it now?”. Ordinarily the SUDS will reduce by at least 3 points. (If the problem is at the same, or only a slightly reduced level there is a psychological (polarity) reversal. – see below) Only stay in the memory long enough to know how it feels: then step outside it.
If there is a appreciable reduction repeat the sequence, starting with the affirmation, “I wholly and completely accept myself , even if I still have (some of this…) (a little of this problem) whilst tapping on Kc and repeat sequence. Continue with the sequences until it is gone.
 |
Treatment for polarity reversals: (**) Tap: Un, 5 – 10 times, affirming, “ I wholly and completely accept myself even if I always have this problem.” Repeat tapping, Um, with the affirmation, “I wholly and completely accept myself, even if I don’t deserve to get over this problem.” Then rub SS whilst affirming, “I wholly and completely accept myself with all my problems and limitations.” Then run normal sequence and note greater reductions on the SUD scale. Continue with normal sequence until SUDs reduce to 0 and problem disappears!
Further Factors for Consideration:
.1. There may be many Emotional states which are no longer useful. There may be many angers, fears, sadnesses, guilts or other feelings, each with a first SEE and gestalt.. You may have cleared “Road Rage” but still feel another inappropriate anger, after clearing that. The other inappropriate feeling will have come from another SEE , context or gestalt. Each can be cleared after an ecology check (above).as, and when they occur.
|

|
2. Test: after you have cleared an emotion, eg. anger or frustration in a traffic jam, go back to another time when you used to get angry of frustrated , step into the memory and try to get that old anger, or frustration back. If not, fine. If yes, check the SUDs scale and tap again, if the old feelings come back.
3. Future pace: Think of a time in the future, which, if had happened in the past you would have felt those old feelings and see if you still get them or if you cannot. If you get some of them, tap until they are gone and continue to test and future pace.
4. Remember feelings and emotions can be appropriate and have a purpose if they serve you. You will never stop having anger, fear or sadness when you need them. You will only banish old feelings which no longer serve you. I still feel angry when people push my boundaries, and do not have the livid rage I used to feel!
 |
5. Dehydration: You will have gathered that energy and polarity implies electricity. Water is a great conductor. Our body is made up of some 70% water. Often we drink tea, coffee, colas, sweetened drinks and alcohol. All of these are diuretics. That means they induce urination, a process of expelling toxins. So, when you feel thirsty and drink any of the above you will urinate and dispose of the liquid you ingested and some more. Thirst is the body’ signal for a water injection. Give it a diuretic and thirst will continue. A dehydrated body is a poor conductor of electricity (and is bad for your health in the long and short terms). Drinking plain water, before and during the tapping process facilitates and accelerates results. Drink water!
 |
6. Energy toxins: The process may be impeded by the presence of energy toxins. There are an almost infinite number of substances which may act to hinder the correction of energy imbalances. Some are obvious; nicoteine, caffeine, petrol fumes and even soap, to name but a few, can interfere with or undermine energy correction. The detection of toxins by elimination can be tedious. Muscle testing can be used those who are familiar with the process. Once detected health may be dramatically improved by the elimination of the toxins. Fortunately impedance by energy toxins is unusual.
Support is available for testing for toxins and relieving their effects.
6. Secondary gain –Ecology Check. This can normally be resolved by checking if you have anything to lose by getting rid of your problem. I worked with a lady who presented agoraphobia as the problem. She had not ventured far from her home for some years. Her daughters and a string of unsuitable boyfriends and “rescuers” had shopped and served her for some years, too. We worked on totally releasing agoraphobia for two hours. She could picture herself going out to the end of the street, then further, then shopping. She felt no stress whilst imagining her new found freedom. The lady functioned well for nearly a week and then had agoraphobia again! Agoraphobia clearly served her in some useful ways. As it was, she had a lot of gains met by keeping the problem.
I could have run a serious ecology check and had her tap on all the old beliefs she had about not being able to cope on her own before tapping on agoraphobia!
|

|
7. Polarity reversal. If an outdated emotion comes up in the present, that means there is a polarity reversal. Tapping on Kc with the affirmation corrects that specific reversal. Sometimes (when the SUD Scale only lowers one or two points,) the reversal is greater. Sometimes the SUD scale remains the same after a tapping sequence. Tapping Un, & Um & Rubbing the Sore Spot, with the affirmation, corrects that.
Cooks Hook Up balances both brain hemispheres, links back brain to front brain and, also balances all polarities. This may, also, be necessary for polarity reversal and always produces a state of relaxation. Sit, cross ankled or cross legged. Place the backs of your hands together with your wrists crossed, put your arms out straight in front. Turn each hand so the palms face each other whilst your wrists are still crossed. Interlink your fingers. Pull your hands down towards your stomach and up towards your chin. Place the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth and breathe in, fully. Take the tip of your tongue from the roof of your mouth and breathe out. Continue to breathe in and out with your hands crossed and interlinked for two minutes. When this process is concluded you should feel calm & relaxed and can continue the tapping sequence.
8. Aspects of a problem. The problem may be, for example, a phobia about spiders.
|

|
The aspects may be, “the hairy legs”, “the many legs”, “it may crawl up my leg.”, “I may squash it.” Or “It may bite me.” It may simply be “Spiders!” So, go to a time when you had the phobia. What bothered you? What bothered you the most? What else bothered you? And Did anything else bother you? (If so list the “what elses.”) The event may have been a troublesome memory, with aspects. TAP ON EACH ASPECT OF WHAT BOTHERED YOU until the SUDS reach 0, or near that, before going to tap on each sequential aspect.
There may be an aspect that needs treatment before the others subside. For example, anger about an event may have to be released before other feelings. You may be angry someone abused you. Fine, except the other person - abuser, does not have the suffering of your anger. They don’t feel it – you do. If you release your anger you will FEEL RELIEF. If you have been abused your abuser will have their Karmic stuff to resolve. That is not your responsibility. You have suffered enough, already!
9. Test: Think of another time in the past when you used to have the old problem, and try to get the old feelings back. If you get some of the old feelings, tap on that time in the past until the SUDS reach 0. Re-test until you just cannot get the old feelings back.
 |
10. Future pace: Go to a time in the future, when you used to have that old problem and try to get it back or find you cannot. If you get it back, tap on it again. Test and future pace until you just cannot get that old problem back.
11. Boundary maintenance: If a problem returns, e.g. anger or fear, consider if there are warranted “here & now” reasons to be angry of scared. Life changes are often necessary accompaniments to therapeutic work!
Emotions/ feelings will arise if one’s boundaries are threatened or breached – if one is abused for example. You may have to do some cognitive work, some new planning or some environmental change to keep the changes created by tapping or other therapy. E.g. children receiving therapy who return to dysfunctional families may revert to old patterns of behaviour.
Suggested Simple Issues for Emotional Release
Please choose: A one-time experience or event that troubles you. It may be frustration, fear, anger, sadness, guilt, or another feeling in a particular situation. Please use an experience that is a minor nuisance, at first, so as to become familiar with the process.. Use the basic technique above. Go back to the man in BLUE: follow the sequence!
Try with a partner, have your partner try with you. Try on yourself. Consider the treatment protocol for complex issues if not easily resolved.
|

|
Complex Issues
These may include traumas, dis-empowering beliefs or phobias in which there are aspects, which need to be resolved sequentially. There may be a gestalt from which the first or worst emotion requires release before the others fall away. Treat each aspect until the SUDs go to 0 (ZERO) and then treat sequential aspects. E.g, 8, above Spiders.
Start with the first or worst aspect and tap through each aspect until the whole memory can be recovered without any bad feelings.
If any of the feelings come back:, That is OK! Tap on them until they disappear, totally.
Remember: You don’t need to remember the first event where the first emotion occurred to totally resolve and release the feelings forever!
Changing Beliefs
You may have a belief that no longer serves you. You may, for example, believe that you had to do everything perfectly before you were OK. Can you ever be perfect? You may have believed that you could not, ever, be able to do something. Can you never do something? You may have believed that the World was against you or you could never succeed. Were those beliefs really true? Beliefs can be changed with same ease as releasing inappropriate emotions, using the same system of tapping.
Treatment in Public. (Touch & Breathe)
Symptoms can be relieved, or even banished by pressing each point whilst breathing deeply. Whilst receiving dental treatment without an anaesthetic I recently experienced pain in a nerve. I squeezed the Gamut point (back of hand) with thumb on palm and forefinger on the point and the pain faded and the dentist was able to continue work The Gamut point is associated with physical & mental pain.
Just remember: it is all in the mind: the way we think. We can “tap” to change feelings and “tap” to change beliefs or thoughts. You are in control of your thoughts! Your Mind! Your Beliefs! And can control Your Feelings! Now that You Know All This!
